DikuMUD III wrapping up

Over the past months I’ve managed to round off and finish up a large list of items.

Most importantly I fixed the last memory leaks and incorrect memory management so that the server now seems to be able to run indefinitely.

I’ve tweaked the point system. It feels better and more balanced now.

Fixed a huge number of issues in the zones. Many commands still need a little love and attention.

HTML5 seems to be working great. Works best with Chrome. I managed to also get telnet with color working again so you can still play with Tintin or CMud.

I’m thinking about making a DikuMUD reunion day. I’ll post an update here when I find a date.

  1. I played DIKU as Falkon and Bongo back in the day 1991-1997 or so, pretty mighty… is it around anymore, how to game again etc. or should I spend a few mill to get it going pime time?

  2. Hosted diku many, many years back. The biggest addition I made was to doors, by having obvious doors by direction using [EAST] for locked, (EAST) for unlocked.

Always loved how easy it was to use an modify, and it’s great that people are still using it.

  3. Thank you for continuing to work on Diku. This code inspired my love of MUDs and online RPGs back in the 1990s. I still discuss them during my livestreams over on Twitch and YouTube where I play games like EverQuest and Classic World of Warcraft. I love providing insightful commentary on the worlds that inspired our modern games. If you’d ever like to sit down and discuss some of the history, I would be honored to tell the story of Diku on my channel. I will leave my email in case you’d like to contact me.
